Jack Hutchinson collection.

Materials assembled by Jack Hutchinson, longtime fly fisher and resident of Everett, Wash., related primarily to fly fishing. Includes large format portraits by R. McCoy of Roderick Haig-Brown, Jack Hemingway, and Lee Wulff, and a large-format photograph (ca. 1985), also by McCoy, of Jack Hutchinson behind the counter of Patrick's Fly Shop in Seattle, Wash. Also includes black & white limited edition print by Harvey Eckert of a speckled trout and mayfly nymph and two color photographs (with photocopy of related correspondence) of artworks by Tommy Brayshaw depicting steelhead; the photographs were produced in a limited edition for members of the McKenzie Flyfishers and the Evergreen Fly Fishing Club.

Roderick Haig-Brown, author, environmentalist and Justice of the Peace, was born in Sussex, England. He moved to B.C. in 1927, where he worked as a logger, trapper, guide and fisherman. He returned to England in 1929 where he remained until 1931 to publish his first book, Silver. In 1934 Haig-Brown and his wife Ann moved to Campbell River, B.C. and purchased their now famous residence in 1936. Thomas Brayshaw was born in Yorkshire, England and moved to Canada in the early 1900s. He was a well-known sport fisherman and devoted most of his adult life to catching, studying and drawing of fish. He also illustrated several of Roderick Haig-Brown's books. Brayshaw achieved recognition for his wooden fish carvings. He spent his retirement in Hope, B.C. after growing fruit in the Okanagan between the wars.
